As a League we will be
forever indebted to these people who assisted us in establishing the League.
There was also an exhibition
at the then Royal British Legion (now the Ex-Service Club) by Phil “The Power”
Taylor with all the entrance money going to the new League. Our relationship
with the Ex-Service Club has since gone from strength to strength. It is now the
location where the Singles and Doubles are played.
The League however was to suffer hard times and
indeed sad times with the deaths of two devoted Committee members; namely
Andrew Pilling, the initial Secretary and Graham Price Jones who took over as
Secretary following Andrew's death. There are now memorial trophies to remember
them. They are the Andrew Pilling Memorial trophy and the Graham Price Jones
fair play trophy.
Since its beginning the
League has also been very lucky to receive continued sponsorship from The
Ex-Service Club and Carpedi Classic
Carpets.
